Bullying. Why is it still happening?
Bullying. Seriously, why is it still happening?
This community when I joined was fun and nurturing. The people wanted to help each other for the love of books. They wanted to see people do well because they had written something that touched them. They wanted to reach out in any way they could because the book meant that much to them that they couldn't keep from screaming it from the rooftops. That is the indie world I know and love.
There are books that I never shut up about, because they have left an imprint on my heart. And those are the ones you will hear me recommend over and over again. And I guess I expect the same thing from others. That's our foundation. That was what got self-publishing to where it is today.
I 5 star a book if it's DAMN GOOD...not because someone is afraid or someone made me afraid, not because someone bullied me into it, not because someone asked me to, not because I'm friends with them. ONLY IF THE BOOK IS REALLY FUCKING GOOD!
I just can't understand anything else.
How much you like me has nothing to do with whether or not you will like my book. How much you hate me has nothing to do with whether or not you like my book. How someone else reacted to your book has nothing to do with how I feel about it. And no one should be hateful regardless of the situation.
Why does there have to be so much hate? Author hate, blogger hate, reader hate. For Christ's sake, they're just books!!! I know we all want to get ahead. I know we all want to be successful, but there is a price for our actions. There's a price for calling people out publicly whether you name names or not. It leaves an imprint. You can't take that back once it's out there.
Whether you are an author or a blogger or a reader, the things that are said to one another can be hurtful. I mean Amanda Todd from Vancouver killer herself because people bullied her and no one stood up for her.
I can't tolerate it anymore. It's so infuriating to watch people cry over this. For people to give 5 star reviews to people because they're afraid. For people to share nasty comments back and forth about another person. For people to try to ruin authors and bloggers. It's all uncalled for.
Completely uncalled for!
You wouldn't teach your children to act that way, so stop it! Just stop it!
Remember why you are here. Take a step back. Leave Facebook for a couple hours. The reason you are here is because BOOKS BRING US TOGETHER.
Let me repeat: BOOKS BRING US TOGETHER.
Please stop letting them tear us apart.
*note: I was not directly a victim of bullying. This is more an assessment of the things that I have seen done to other people in the community at large.
